The San Diego Police Foundation’s 16th Annual Friends of the Badge luncheon was held on June 22 at the Convention Center. A total of $145,000 was raised to support the mission of the Foundation: funding needed equipment and training as well as impactful outreach programs to enhance police-community relations. Mayor Kevin Faulconer addressed the crowd, emphasizing support for police, and Chief of Police Shelley Zimmerman. A highlight of the gathering was the unveiling of artwork by Michael Ray Johnson, Jr., that illustrates the impact of community-oriented policing.

Bridgepoint Education and its employees generated $241,347 for United Way as part of the company’s 2016 United Way Workplace Giving Campaign. Funds were raised through several different initiatives at all three Bridgepoint’s locations: Denver, Chicago and Clinton, Iowa.

“Bridgepoint Education and its employees take pride in giving back to the community with the United Way campaign,” said Dr. Richard Pattenaude, Ashford University president emeritus and United Way campaign champion. “The strong response we received during the campaign is a great example of how much Bridgepoint employees care and support those in need.”

Reno Contracting teamed up with Mighty 1090 AM/Padres Network to donate $100 to Warrior Foundation-Freedom Station for every home run during home games of San Diego Padres. All funds go toward providing critical quality-of-life items, support services and transitional housing to injured veterans in the San Diego area. To date, the total donated is over $10,000.

Center for Community Solutions received $50,000 in funding from Raliance, a collaborative initiative dedicated to ending sexual violence. The grant will go toward provision of Teen Relationship Violence Prevention Education to youth in San Diego County’s juvenile detention and juvenile rehabilitation facilities. Raliance was recently founded by three leading sexual violence prevention organizations – the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault-PreventConnect, and the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence.

On July 13 Habitat for Humanity and Realty Income Corporation joined together to revitalize the Imperial Beach Community. The mission is possible through the financial and volunteer support of partners like Realty Income.
