On September 8, the Junior Achievement’s 5th Annual Golf Classic was held at the Grand Golf Club. Presented by San Diego Fluid System Technologies, the event raised $170,000 to support JA’s mission to impact 81,500 students this year by teaching them how to get a job, start a business, and manage their money. Sponsors included The B.E.S.T CEO Group, Dowling & Yahnke, EVOTEK, and Perfect Bar. JA’s Lifetime Laureate Rolf Benirschke was the guest speaker. The NFL Hall of Famer interviewed the JA Student Ambassadors, who shared that they are ready for the “real world” thanks to JA’s programs.
National Conflict Resolution Center received a $50,000 pledge from The Parker Foundation towards the agency’s Avoiding the Pipeline to Prison initiative to help keep at-risk youth out of the juvenile justice system and on track to adult success. The pledge includes a $30,000 outright gift and a $20,000 one-for-one challenge matching grant. To meet that fundraising challenge, NCRC will turn to “THE 100,” a new coalition of leaders from San Diego’s legal community who support NCRC’s restorative justice and community building efforts.
Grossmont Healthcare District awarded a $6,000 sponsorship to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, San Diego chapter, in support of its mission toward life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications.
GHD also awarded $4,400 to the McAlister Institute Kiva Learning Center for Women and Children. The grant will provide admission to the 2017 Celebration of Women San Diego conference for women who are in recovery and living in a long-term Kiva sober-living residential facility in Lemon Grove.
The GHD also approved a $5,000 donation in support of Sharp Grossmont Hospital’s staff participation in the American Heart Association’s annual San Diego Heart & Stroke Walk. Proceeds will fund heart disease, stroke research, and initiatives that promote the prevention, treatment, and better patient care in the areas of cardiovascular disease.

East County Transitional Living Center
GHD awarded a $20,000 grant to the East County Transitional Living Center (ECTLC). The grant will provide transportation to medical and dental appointments, along with prescription pick-up, for some of the men, women, and children who are served daily by ECTLC, an El Cajon-based community services nonprofit.
The U.S. Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, has granted $15,000 to the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, for a restoration project in Fairbanks Ranch called the Fairbanks Ranch Invasive Plant Removal and Stream Enhancement within the San Dieguito River Valley.
Feeding San Diego has awarded $25,000 grants to three organizations. These funds are provided by the $75,000 grant to Feeding San Diego from the Walmart Foundation to fund infrastructure that will ultimately help FSD’s partner agencies secure and distribute more nutritious food to families in need. Those receiving grants are: Stepping Higher for the purchase of a food rescue truck; a $2564 grant to Military Outreach Ministries COGIC for a freezer; $3,700 grant to The Salvation Army Escondido for the purchase of two freezers to help preserve fresh food.
Coronado Yacht Club and Cortez Racing Association along with Sharp HospiceCare, held its 15th annual Sharp HospiceCare Benefit Dinner and Regatta. Top sponsors included Horizon Oxygen and Medical Equipment, Lantern Crest Senior Living, Virginia Napierskie, and Sodexo Health Care Services. The $360,000 raised will help offset unfunded patient care and ancillary patient programs such as music therapy, healing touch, and the We Honor Veterans program. The event also supports the Homes for Hospice program.

North San Diego County Association of Realtors’ Young Professional Network
The North San Diego County Association of Realtors’ Young Professional Network group collected 113 backpacks and school supplies that will be donated to students attending Vista Unified School District schools. The collection drive was part of a recent networking mixer held at Indian Joe Brewing in Vista. A portion of beer sales at the mixer also benefited North County Lifeline.
