Just Like My Child Foundation’s inaugural Summit Gathering and its new memberships brought in more than $140,000 to empower Ugandan girls to focus on education and avoid the pitfalls of child marriage, early pregnancy, and poverty. Around 200 women attended the event at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa Nov. 11.
The funds will go toward JLMC’s Girl Power Project, a two-year program which teaches girls ages 12-15 mentoring and life skills that they can in turn teach others, thus bolstering communities and promoting economic independence. Local leaders are also trained to educate area residents about human rights, women’s rights, the law, and how to report violations.
Guests at the San Diego Women’s Foundation’s Holiday Party with a Purpose raise a toast
The San Diego Women’s Foundation used its annual holiday party to raise more than $2,000 to help the nonprofit AjA Project, which uses photography as a catalyst for social change, purchase equipment.
“During the holiday gathering, our members connect with each other and provide further support for an organization that changes lives in our community,” said SDWF Executive Director Katie Sawyer.
The event at the home of SDWF board member Carolyn Konecki comes on the heels of a $35,000 grant to the same organization to support its Girls Eye View Program, which is directed at girls in the juvenile rehabilitation system.

St. Germain Children’s Charity hosted its 35th annual Silver Tea last month, raising over $120,000 for local child abuse prevention and treatment efforts. More than 350 guests attended the event at the home of Jason and Jenny Hochberg.
“We are so thankful for the beautiful weather we had on the day of the tea and for the many hours so many people spent ensuring our success. Our community can do amazing things when we come together,” said Silver Tea chair Wendy Neri.
