Union Bank partnered with the San Diego Chargers to raise funds for the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank during the 2014 season. “Game Changers” the fundraising program raised $15,000 for the Food Bank. Donations made by fans were matched by the Union Bank Foundation and the San Diego Chargers. Every dollar donated provides five meals to individuals and families in need in San Diego County.
The American Diabetes Association’s “Alert Day” is being held on Mar. 24 and will feature free food giveaway at the nine Chick-fil-A restaurants in San Diego County. Each person visiting one of the restaurants showing proof of a diabetes risk test, will receive a complimentary entrée. The menu items offered have been approved by the American Diabetes Association as healthy eating options for people with diabetes.

San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program presented its annual Volunteer Appreciation Awards at a reception held at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. Distinguished Service Awards honored those who contributed 150 pro bono hours to clients of SDVLP. The State Bar of California’s Wiley W. Manuel Award was presented to those who contributed 50 hours of pro bono service. Standout Awards were presented to volunteers who excelled in their volunteer efforts.
Women’s Leadership Day is presented by Torrey Pines Bank, Cisco, and Servant Leadership Institute on Mar. 26 at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort. The LGPA KIA Classic aims to create business and professional relationships by providing an engaging forum for like-minded professional women.

The 27th Annual Peacemaker Awards presented by the National Conflict Resolution Center was held on Mar. 12 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. Janet Napolitano, President of the University of California was named the national Peacemaker for 2015 and the local Peacemaker is Superintendent Cindy Martin at the San Diego Unified School District.Sponsors include SDG&E/Sempra Energy, Qualcomm, Procopio, US Bank, Seltzer/Caplan/McMahan/Vitek and Union Bank.

Fostering Hope Golf Classic provided a $155,000 net between the Sunday night’s cocktail party and auction and Monday’s Tournament. The events were held at the Grand Del Mar on Mar. 8 and 9 to benefit Voices for Children. The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program transforms the lives of San Diego County’s 5,100 foster children by providing them with advocacy in the courtroom, in the classroom, and the community. The Presenting Sponsor for the tournament was Dowling&Yahnke and other sponsors included Qualomm, Cox Communications, MG Properties, and Tecate Group.
