2-1-1 San Diego will debut its new expanded facility during an evening housewarming celebration on Feb. 12 at 6 pm. Past events have always been held at lunch time, however, this year the event was designed to give guests the opportunity to view its new Connections Center before it’s open to the public. The evening will include food, drinks and music by Ozomatli. Proceeds support 2-1-1 San Diego programming, which connects 2,000 people in need to 6,000 community and health support services.
United Through Reading received a $5,000 grant from the Yelp Foundation. As a result of the votes received in the Yelp Foundation Gives Local grant contest, UTR won the first place grant. Of many nonprofits considered for recognition, only three in the San Diego area were nominated to participate in the grant contest, which awarded $10,000 to to local nonprofits.

Maureen King and Patricia Seiber were honorary chairs of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center Tea by the Sea held at The Marine Room on Jan. 23. The $37,579 raised will support the Garden Program for the aquaponics and farm-to-table programs. The proceeds promote sustainability & healthy living to adults with developmental disabilities at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.
Mel and Linda Katz will be presented The Philanthropy in Peacemaking Award for their contributions to organizations that benefit the most vulnerable population, by the National Conflict Resolution Center at its 28th annual Peacemaker Awards dinner which is scheduled for Apr. 14 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. Richard Dreyfuss will be presented the National Peacemaker Award. The money raised at this event will help support NCRC’s groundbreaking initiative, Avoiding the Pipeline to Prison, which aims to keep at-risk youth in schools and out of the juvenile justice system.
The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year is accepting nominations and applications for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2016 Awards in San Diego. The nomination deadline is March 11. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the EY honors game-changing business leaders who have disrupted industries, created new product categories and successfully brought new innovation and technology to traditional industries. The San Diego program is sponsored by Cresa San Diego and Allison+Partners.

The TRI-N-HARDER-4-KIDS Indoor Triathlon raised $16,500 to support STAR/PAL youth programs and the SDPOA Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. Chief Shelley Zimmerman and the San Diego Police Department won the Challenge Trophy for bringing in the most money.
The 12th Annual Dream House Raffle to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego will hold its Early Bird Drawing 1 for all ticket holders as of February 5. The event is sponsored by Barney&Barney, Wells Fargo and Landmark Aviation. The Grand Prize drawing winner will receive either the Dream House or $2.1 Million in Cash. Individuals who purchase three or more tickets are entered into the Multi-Ticket Drawing for a 2016 Tesla Model S or $50,000 cash.
The Pathways to Peace Committee of the Downtown San Diego Breakfast Rotary Club will be presenting the Peacemaker of the Year Award on Feb. 24. The Club meets at 7:30 a.m. at University Club at the top of Symphony Towers.

The Grossmont Healthcare District is accepting nominations for its 2016 Healthcare Heroes Awards. The GHD’s annual awards program honors volunteers who help advance the delivery of quality healthcare in the East County region. Deadline for submission of entries is Feb. 23 and the awards will be presented at a luncheon on May 18 at the Steele Canyon Golf Club in Jamul.
