I wasn’t alive in the 70s, but That 70’s Show gave me level-headed perspective. Red Forman’s celebratory beer was always an “Ownbrau”—an homage to the popular lager, Lowenbrau. Sycamore Den might as well be a 70s time machine. We told you about Normal Heights bar who’s paying homage to the 1970’s dad and one of the most popular, yet long forgotten, beers of the time. Lowenbrau was first brewed in Munich in 1383 and made its Oktoberfest debut in 1810. Widely popular among the Krauts, it hit the US in the late 60s. The “lion’s brew” had a lion’s share of the market during the 70s and 80s (even though it was actually brewed in the US by Miller). Your dad should remember the “Let It Be Lowenbrau,” or “Here’s To Good Friends” jingles. After the 80s, Lowenbrau fell off. Both Nick Zanoni, owner of Sycamore Den and bar consultant Eric Johnson (of Noble Experiment) are taking the defibrillators to the cult lager. To those who remember, it should taste like nostalgia and a disgustingly good-looking mustache.
