San Diego Museum of Art just got a $7.4 million gift! Does this mean free drinks at Culture and Cocktails?

Telescope

UCSD will construct three ginormous telescopes to find out what the universe is made of, and if it has a shelf life. Too bad the ’scopes will be in Chile.

The show must go on: La Mesa’s Lamplighters Community Theatre is back in biz after being closed to make room for the new police station.

Grunions

The grunions are running in La Jolla! Birch Aquarium guides are offering midnight tours March 29 to May 26. It’s a pity all the nearby restos close at 10.

The Brain Health Fair is March 16 at the Hilton Bayfront. Let’s get a grip on these football concussions, shall we?

Coronado’s Wizard of Oz Weekend (WOW) has been postponed ’til the fall. We’d like a word with the man behind the curtain.

A show with punch! Iron Mike performs his one-man show, Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, directed by Spike Lee, March 5 at the Civic. Yes, but will he tap dance?

Whaling Bar

Tears for the shuttered Whaling Bar. And the mural that’s being moved to a La V boardroom.

Time Warner Cable: Still not carrying the Padres, but will air Dodgers games in 2014. That’s a curve ball we didn’t see coming.

Horton Plaza no longer offers free parking. For the amount of work it takes to remember the dang vegetable level, we don’t think we should have to pay.
