At Caption Boutique & Gallery downtown, owner and artist Frenses Perey, 34, was inspired by the time she spent studying abroad. “I loved how Italy had shops that were more like an artist’s studio with a showroom,” says Perey, who chose her East Village locale because she liked the “urban vibe.” Caption offers mostly local vendors and jewelry makers, like Tami Shreves and her line of baby onesies, and 19-year-old fashion designer Isa Guadalupe. Perey’s collection of handmade leather rings and cuffs are bestsellers as well. For those shoppers with the creative bug, Caption also offers weekly painting and vino classes. This month’s evening classes will be held August 9 and 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
