The Civic Theatre is alive with The Sound of Music. The musical revival—which follows the true story of the von Trapp family and their governess, Maria, during the Nazi annexation of Austria—comes to San Diego November 15–20.

Directed by three-time Tony winner and former Old Globe artistic director Jack O’Brien (Hairspray), the show also stars Broadway vet Ben Davis (Les Misérables) as Captain von Trapp. For the role of Maria, O’Brien selected Kerstin Anderson, a student at New York’s Pace University who beat hundreds to win the coveted part. Listen for the classic songs, including “Do-Re-Mi” and the titular tune.

Music, history, Broadway stars—these are a few of our favorite things.
