Finding effective ways to manage anxiety has been a personal journey for me, and alternative cannabinoids have become a game-changer in this quest.
Anxiety can feel like a relentless companion, constantly lingering in the background and often making daily life challenging. Finding effective ways to manage it has been a personal journey for me, and alternative cannabinoids have become a game-changer in this quest.
As a cannabis farmer with a scientific background, I’ve had the privilege of exploring a range of cannabinoids in depth. Two of the most popular compounds today—Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) and Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-9)—are gaining significant attention as alternatives to traditional cannabis products.
While both HHC and Delta-9 have shown promise in managing anxiety, my first-hand experience using these products led me to favor HHC for certain situations. In this blog post, I’ll share my personal journey comparing HHC with Delta-9 for anxiety relief. I’ll also highlight four brands of HHC products that proved especially effective for me which included:
Each of these brands offers unique benefits and experiences, and I’ll explore how each one stood out in helping me manage my anxiety. So, whether you’re new to HHC or considering switching from Delta-8, this comprehensive guide will help you make an informed choice.

I first discovered HHC when searching for alternatives to Delta-9 to manage anxiety. My exploration into Delta-9 started due to its reputation as a milder form of THC, promising relaxation without overwhelming psychoactive effects.
Advice: Understanding the differences between HHC and Delta-9 is crucial for finding the right product to suit your needs:
| Aspect | HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol) | Delta-9 (Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol) |
| Chemical Structure | Hydrogenated form of THC (stable compound) | Primary psychoactive compound in cannabis |
| Potency | Similar to Delta-9 THC, but often smoother and less intense | Highly potent, strong psychoactive effects |
| Onset Time | 10-20 minutes | 10-30 minutes |
| Duration | 4-6 hours | 3-4 hours |
| Legality | Legally ambiguous (depends on regional laws) | Legal status varies by state/country; often stricter |
| Source | Hydrogenated from THC | Naturally occurring in cannabis |
| Psychoactivity | High, but smoother and potentially fewer side effects | High, intense psychoactivity, can cause paranoia in high doses |
| Recommended For | Quick, potent relief with a smoother experience | Strong relief for severe anxiety, but may impair daily function |
| Availability | Growing (primarily online) | Broad (online and retail, but regulated) |
While both HHC and Delta-9 THC have been subjects of interest in the scientific community, the research on HHC is still emerging, whereas Delta-9 has been studied extensively for its effects on anxiety and other conditions.
Personal Perspective: From my personal experience and interacting with customers, I’ve noticed consistent patterns in how people respond to HHC and Delta-9 for anxiety relief.

| Onset Time | 10-20 minutes | 10-30 minutes |
| Potency | Strong, but smoother and less intense | Highly potent, strong psychoactive effects |
| Duration | 4-6 hours | 3-4 hours |
| Effectiveness | Effective for high-stress situations with smoother effects | Effective for severe anxiety but can cause paranoia in high doses |
| Recommended For | Daily anxiety management with functional capability | Severe anxiety relief, best for evening or night use |
| Side Effects | Less likely to cause paranoia or over-sedation | Can cause paranoia, increased heart rate, and memory impairment at high doses |
| Legality | Legally ambiguous (depends on regional laws) | Legal status varies by state/country; often stricter |
| Source | Hydrogenated from THC | Naturally occurring in cannabis |
| Psychoactivity | High, but smoother and potentially fewer side effects | High, intense psychoactivity, can cause paranoia in high doses |

HHC Pros:
HHC Cons:
Delta-9 Pros:
Delta-9 Cons:
Both HHC and Delta-9 offer unique benefits for managing anxiety, but their effectiveness largely depends on individual needs and preferences.
Choosing the Right Product: When choosing between HHC and Delta-9 products, consider the following:
Final Thoughts: Ultimately, both HHC and Delta-9 THC have their place in anxiety management. My journey taught me that while HHC is more effective for acute anxiety due to its rapid and smoother effects, Delta-9 can be a reliable choice for severe anxiety when used cautiously. I hope my personal experience and insights help guide you in finding the right product that suits your needs.
HHC is structurally similar to THC, and while research is limited, anecdotal evidence suggests that HHC could potentially show up on a drug test. Most standard drug tests screen for THC metabolites, which may detect HHC. If you’re concerned about drug testing, consider avoiding HHC products and consult your healthcare provider.
HHC’s legality varies by state and can be legally ambiguous due to its synthetic nature. While it’s derived from hemp, some states classify HHC as a controlled substance. Always check your local laws before purchasing or using HHC products.
Like other cannabinoids, HHC may cause side effects, including:
It’s recommended to start with a low dose and increase gradually to minimize potential side effects.
HHC is psychoactive, similar to Delta-9 THC, and provides a “high.” CBD (Cannabidiol) is non-psychoactive and doesn’t cause intoxication. HHC is better suited for those seeking psychoactive effects, while CBD is ideal for those looking for potential therapeutic benefits without a high.
Mixing HHC with other cannabinoids like CBD or CBG is possible and may offer a more balanced effect due to the “entourage effect.” However, combining HHC with other psychoactive cannabinoids like Delta-8 or Delta-9 THC could intensify the high. Experiment with caution and consult a healthcare provider if unsure.
While early evidence suggests HHC could be safe for daily use, more research is needed to confirm long-term safety. Start with low doses and consult your healthcare provider if you plan to use HHC regularly.

Inspired by the effortless charm of French cafés, this taste of France on Orange Avenue invites guests to embrace the simple pleasure of taking their time.
Strolling down Orange Avenue on a sunny afternoon, you’ll hear the hum of beach cruisers rolling by and visitors making their way toward the Hotel del Coronado. Dogs pause to greet one another on the sidewalk, palm trees sway overhead, and for a moment, you’re convinced you’re living inside the postcard from the gift shop you just passed.
Then the scene shifts. Towering white columns, black café awnings and gold-trimmed windows frame Little Frenchie, where woven bistro chairs spill onto the sidewalk and servers deliver bubbling crocks of French onion soup. The scent of caramelized onions and melted Gruyère is practically an invitation to ask, “How long for a table for two?”
That feeling of pulling up a chair and staying awhile is exactly what inspired Little Frenchie. French cuisine has a reputation for feeling a little intimidating, but the restaurant is rewriting that narrative with food and wine that feels approachable.
“Sometimes when you read a French menu, you come across words you can’t even pronounce,” David Spatafore, the owner of Little Frenchie, says. “We wanted to create a restaurant where people felt comfortable.”
Little Frenchie was designed to capture the spirit of the French sidewalk cafés that inspired it. Dating back to 1917, the space already carried the charm of a Parisian bistro, with architectural details that felt more at home on a European street corner than in Coronado. The team saw an opportunity to create a restaurant that matched the character of the space while filling a gap in the neighborhood.
The result is a French restaurant that honors tradition without taking itself too seriously.
At Little Frenchie, classic French techniques are at the heart of the menu, but there is always room for creativity. A cassoulet featuring Toulouse sausage and duck confit pays homage to the recipes and regions that inspired it, while a rich hot chocolate made with ingredients imported from France brings a taste of French café culture to Coronado.
The team loves finding unexpected ways to make familiar dishes feel new. A burger becomes a showstopper when it is finished tableside with melted raclette, while a French Dip gets elevated with prime beef and Wagyu makes its way into the burgers. Even Eggs Benedict gets a French twist, swapping the traditional English muffin for a buttery croissant. The GB&J, Little Frenchie’s take on a grilled cheese, brings that same playful approach with seasonal jam and French Brie layered into a comforting classic.
Nearly everything at Little Frenchie is made from scratch, with ingredients carefully chosen to match the restaurant’s standards. Even the bread receives special attention. Each morning, the team sends a car to Prager Brothers Artisan Bread to pick up freshly baked loaves, ensuring every element of the meal reflects the restaurant’s commitment to quality.
Wine is woven into the experience just as naturally as the food. Inspired by the effortless pairings found in French cafés and bistros, Little Frenchie’s by-the-glass selection invites guests to sip their way through different regions and discover new favorites without the pressure of knowing all the rules.
Laika Nur, MD, takes her love of volleyball from the court to the clinic as team physician for the San Diego Mojo
Growing up, Laika Nur, MD, Scripps Clinic sports medicine specialist, loved watching beach volleyball when the Association of Volleyball Professionals tour came to her hometown of Chicago. Years later, Dr. Nur was attending a professional event focused on women’s sports, and the discussion turned to a new professional women’s volleyball league. The general manager and coaching staff for San Diego’s team, the Mojo, happened to be in attendance, and Dr. Nur took the opportunity to ask them if they needed a team doctor. A new program guides new moms through high-risk pregnancy and into the “fourth trimester”
Mai Vue was just 34 weeks pregnant when she delivered her baby. Her pregnancy had been complicated, and she’d had a recent second trimester pregnancy loss, which led to her receiving specialized care from Sean Daneshmand, MD, a Scripps Clinic perinatologist who oversees high-risk pregnancies. Dr. Daneshmand and his team took care of Mai during her pregnancy, through the birth of her healthy baby girl and beyond. Mai was part of a program Scripps launched to provide support to new moms in the weeks and months after delivery. The postpartum program, known as Scripps Health’s Fourth Trimester Continuum of Care, provides care for women with high-risk pregnancies to optimize their health after childbirth and reduce the risk of complications in future pregnancies. Scripps Clinic’s Mohs surgery center is one of the most sophisticated in the country.
It’s estimated that one in five people in the U.S. will develop skin cancer at some point in their lives. When you factor in living in a sun-soaked city like San Diego and the outdoorsy lifestyle that comes with it, that figure can jump to as high as one in three, which makes early detection and intervention all the more important. Dermatologists at Bighorn Mohs and Dermatology Center are using innovative imaging methods and advanced surgical techniques to diagnose and treat skin cancer. For certain cancers in sensitive spots, like the face, dermatologists perform Mohs surgery, removing skin tissue layer by layer until reaching healthy, cancer-free tissue. They also use a process called immunohistochemistry to view tissue samples taken during Mohs surgery in far greater detail than previous methods. Read more about how Scripps is advancing skin cancer care here.
