Class 10. Plein Air Techniques: Drawing and Painting the Figure in the Landscape with Pat Kelly | Athenaeum School of the Arts

On location at La Jolla Shores



In this one-day workshop, students will learn more about plein air technique and painting the figure outdoors. We will paint from a life model on location at La Jolla Shores. Students are also welcome to draw instead of paint from the model if they prefer.



Materials: Oil paints: Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Lemon,* Phthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White (large tube,) Cadmium Orange Pure.

Brushes: Robert Simmons white natural bristle flat # 40F, sizes 2,3, 4, and 6, and a small, pointed sable brush for detail; small steel palette knife.

Other: Portable easel; Compose-It Grid 6 in 1; several 6” x 8” or 8” x 10” canvas boards; Gamsol odorless solvent; small cup or container; 12” x 16” wooden palette; paper towels; sun hat; old shirt.

If you choose to draw the model: Drawing board; paper or sketchbook; graphite; eraser; vine charcoal; charcoal pencils.

* Buy only pure Cadmium colors/not hues.
