A San Diego tradition since 1998, the 20th annual Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon returns June 4. The course takes more than 30,000 runners through Balboa Park before heading into Hillcrest, North Park, and Normal Heights, with the full marathon continuing through Mission Bay Park and ending at Waterfront Park for a concert featuring Michael Franti and Spearhead.
For spectators hitting the early mile markers, various eateries like The Rabbit Hole in Normal Heights will open at 6 a.m. But who says you have to be a runner to carbo-load? Spectators need their energy, too.
