There are plenty of ways to have a frighteningly good time this Halloween in San Diego. These are a few of the best for those who want to show off movie-quality costumes or just throw on a white sheet, toss back a few drinks, or cling to the family.
WCKD Village
Where: 7th Avenue between Market and J streets
When: October 27, 6 p.m. to midnight
Confident in your costume? Enter the contest at WCKD Village—grand prize: $2,500. This music festival takes over six blocks in the Gaslamp Quarter and East Village with four stages of live hip-hop and EDM, plus other venues crawling with stilt walkers, fire breathers, palm readers, a psychedelic maze, and more. Tickets range from $10 to $110.
Spooktober-Fest
Where: The Lafayette Hotel
When: October 27, 7 p.m.
If you were going to choose between attending Oktoberfest or a Halloween party—don’t. Haunt this mashup party where Black Panther and Wonder Woman can swap superhero stories over a local craft brew in the beer garden and compete in the best lederhosen contest. Tickets are $40 presale or $50 at the door.
The Haunted Trail
Where: Balboa Drive and Juniper Road in Balboa Park
When: Through October 31
Follow a one-mile-long trail lined with terrors. That is, if you can make it through the haunted maze. Intended for kids over 10 and adults, this creepy event takes place most nights this month. $25 for general admission; $37 for a “Fast Pass” ticket. Tickets good for one day only.
Pacific Beach Pub Crawl
Where: Starts at Bub’s at the Beach
When: October 26, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Beach bars, discounted drinks, welcome shots. That’s the gist of PB’s pre-Halloween pub crawl, starting at Bub’s at the Beach (where check-in takes place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.) and scaring up trouble at bars and clubs until the wee hours—and afterward, at the official after-party, included in the $25 ticket.
