San Diego chef Terryl Gavre’s newest venture, Bake Sale, is just what it sounds like—an old-fashioned bakery where you can satisfy your sweet tooth, from croissants and sweet rolls to cookies and muffins, or grab a lunchtime sandwich on home-baked bread to eat at the tiny tables. The East Village space is light and airy, with white beadboard, a marble counter, and a collection of vintage china plates adorning the blue-painted walls. Gavre and new head baker, CIA-trained Kathleen Shen, have just introduced a variety of gluten-free items. There are even home-baked doggy treats for your urban pooch. We humans especially like the chocolate caramel pretzel bar, a crunchy, salty-sweet delight. 815 F Street
