La Jolla Playhouse raised $1.5 million at its Gala on Mar. 21 held at the Playhouse. The funds will support the Playhouse’s Education and Outreach initiatives, as well as its New Play Development programs. “This year’s Gala offered both a forward-looking celebration of our adventurous upcoming season, as well as a tribute to Debby Jacobs, who has chaired the Playhouse’s Gala for fifteen years, providing invaluable support for our vital education and new play development efforts,” said Artistic Director Christophe Ashley.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the California State Legislature celebrates women for their efforts to empower others. This year, AT&T Director of External Affairs Christine Moore was honored as 2015 Woman of the Year for the 80th District of California by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez. The ceremony was held at the state Capitol, where Moore was recognized for her career of service and tireless work to strengthen the community in the 80th District.

The San Diego County Medical Society Foundation’s 3rd annual Aces for Health golf tournament was held on Mar. 12 at the Del Mar Country Club. A total of $88,390 was raised which goes towards providing specialty and surgical care to San Diego County residents unable to access care. Major sponsors include The Doctors Company, The Doctors Insurance Agency, Wells Fargo, VDP Direct, Sharp and Wealth Advisors.

Malashock Dance renamed their art studio in honor of Abbe Wolfsheimer for her longstanding legacy of passionate support for dance by officially naming the space The Abbe Wolfsheimer Studio. The announcement was made on Mar. 13 at a private celebration. Wolfsheimer’s husband, David Stutz, donated $100,000 in January 2015. Abbe’s name and legacy continue to facilitate dance education, performance, creation and discovery,” said John Malashock, founder, Malashock Dance.
On Apr. 12 the Food Truck & Family Festival for Abraxas High, will be held at The Churck at Rancho Bernardo. For several years, the Church has partnered with this at-risk youth high school to help with school improvements, painting, mentoring for the students and their every day school and student needs. A $10 donation fills a backpack for a student and a $25 donation packs a teacher tote with supplies. Food Trucks are available for family treats.
The 52nd Anniversary Dinner for Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest “Trailblazers, The Pill & Beyond” is being held on Apr. 7 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Eig is the Featured Speaker. The Philanthropic Trailblazer is K. Andrew Achterkirchen.
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary 50th Anniversary of Women of Dedication is being held on Apr. 7 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Fifteen honorees will be presented and recognized for their contributions to the San Diego community. The event is being chaired by Carol LeBeau and Connie Conard.
Architectural Concepts, Inc. has been named as a finalist in the ARDA Awards program. They were chosen as a finalist in two Interior Design Categories: Seahorse Beach Club & Residences and Silverleaf Resorts’ Sales Center. This year, the winning “ARDYs” will be announced at the Awards Gala to be held on Ap. 15 at the Marriott World Center Resort in Orlando.
