Casa Cornelia Law Center and Hughes Marino are hosting a reception on Aug. 15 at the Hughes Marino building to celebrate American Artist Appreciation Month with local immigration artists whose work has touched millions around the world. Guests will enjoy a private screening of the 2013 Oscar winning documentary Inocente and a musical performance by Jorge Narvaez. Proceeds will benefit Casa Cornelia’s work on behalf of San Diego’s most vulnerable women and children.

Pedal the Cause is calling for registrations (sandiego.pedalthecause.org/) for the bike ride between La Jolla and Julian on Oct. 26-27 in San Diego. To date $183,000 has been raised with Element 23 being the top corporate fundraiser at $183,000. All of the proceeds raised will support cancer research at UCSD Moores Cancer Center, Salk Institute of Biological Studies and Sanford/Burnham Medical Research Institute. “We are proud to have 100 percent of the proceeds stay in San Diego,” said Pedal the Cause-San Diego President Bill Koman.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals and the San Diego Planned Giving Partnership presented the 17th annual luncheon program on Aug. 2 at the Doubletree Hotel in Mission Valley. Richard Heinrich was honored posthumous. Heinrich began his career in San Diego at Scripps Memorial Hospital Foundation working with Bob Weber to create the planned giving program in San Diego. The program is one of the nationally recognized planned giving programs in the health care field. Timothy Logan was the speaker at the luncheon program and workshop.

Seacrest Village Retirement Communities hosted its annual 211 Club Patron Recognition Party on July 14 at the home of Jeffrey Strauss. The Club consists of 120 of Seacrest Village’s patrons who contribute to the charitable mission of the Homes.  The Resident Assistance Fund makes available the funding to take care of those in need.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Downtown San Diego is being held on Aug. 17 at Embarcadero Park. The event creates awareness of the mission of ACS to fund research and finish the fight and bring an end to cancer as we know it.

Torrey Pines Bank has partnered with the San Diego/Imperial County Alzheimer’s Association and CBS8-TV in the KNOW ALZHEIMER’S 8. The campaign was developed to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, as the third leading cause of death in San Diego County, and to promote programs and services available from the Alzheimer’s Association. Torrey Pines Bank will also partner with the Alzheimer’s Association for their Date with a Cure, highlighting research taking shape around the disease on Aug. 12 at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, as well as the organization’s Celebration of Courage and Hope honoring local champions in the fight against the disease on Sept. 19 at the US Grand Hotel.

Dr. Sean Daneshmand, Founder and Kevin Robertson, Executive Director of Miracle Babies, were the recipient of Bandai Co’s Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. Hometown Heroes Award receiving a $5,000 contribution. Miracle Babies provides support and financial assistance to families with critically ill newborns in neonatal intensive care. “Hometown Heroes” is an ongoing program of the new Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. (Love Is Fun Everywhere) lifestyle brand.  Its goal is to encourage and recognize pro-social activity by enabling visitors to the Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. Website to nominate people in their communities who have selflessly committed time and effort to improve the quality of life for those in need.
