World renowned snowboarder and Encinitas resident
The Encinitas resident holds two X Games medals, three U.S. Grand Prix wins, and a World Snowboard Tour slopestyle championship title. He hopes to qualify for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games at the Sprint U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix in Mammoth, January 16–19.

You’re on the snow 10 months a year. What is your favorite place to snowboard? Northstar Resort [Tahoe] is where I honed my skills and nothing beats a sunny park day.
You blogged that you have stood on every major podium in snowboarding. My favorite memory has to be winning my first U.S. Open in 2009. I also won the Global Open Tour and got second on the TTR Tour the same day. It was an unforgettable moment.
Single or attached? Very married. I have been with my wife, Drea, since we were 18 and she has played a huge role in my success. She was also a competitive snowboarder.
What is the hardest aspect of being a competitive snowboarder? The travel. We spend a lot of time on the road away from our families. For eight years I have lived out of a suitcase.
When you’re home in San Diego, where do you go? I spend most of my time in Encinitas, surfing Grandview, grabbing a bite to eat at Tin Leaf in La Costa, and walking along the beach in Cardiff with my wife and two dogs.
