Butch and Sundance. Warhol and Basquiat. Peanut butter and jelly. Certain partnerships transcend the ages, iconic both as individuals as well as part of a team. Today, the Hotel del Coronado officially announced their next partnership, and it’s a legend in the making. Nobu, the acclaimed Japanese restaurant and hospitality empire, is coming to the Hotel del Coronado in early 2025.
Launched in New York City in 1994 by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, producer Meir Teper, and restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Nobu is known for redefining Japanese nouveau cuisine, creating signature dishes like their black miso cod as well as world-renowned sushi rolls and sashimi prepared by some of the best chefs in the world.
Today, Nobu has 53 locations on five continents, including a luxury retreat in Malibu and a restaurant in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter inside the Hard Rock hotel.
As part of the last phase of the Blackstone’s more than $550 million restoration, Nobu at the Del will span over 3,700 square feet of indoor and outdoor dining space at 1500 Orange Avenue. Design details include an outdoor pagoda bar, and of course, the hotel’s famous Pacific Ocean views.
Blackstone’s managing director Brian Kaufman, says that “from day one, it has been our goal to ensure the Hotel Del is able to provide guests and community members a one-of-a-kind experience, and we are thrilled to add a world-class dining partner like Nobu.”
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa adds: “We look forward to bringing guests the Nobu signature dishes they have come to love, along with some exceptional items and experiences that will only be available at Nobu Hotel del Coronado.”
With Nobu’s global reputation coupled with the Hotel del’s 136-year history as one of California’s most iconic destinations, it’s safe to expect outstanding things from this duo. Watch San Diego Magazine for more announcements about the partnership.
