Don’t let the plastic chairs and zero-frills design dissuade you. The humble La Fachada in Barrio Logan—with its pretty turquoise exterior, arcade game–filled interior, and Tijuana taco stand–like patio—is home to some of the most authentic Mexican eats north of the border.
Though the menu goes beyond tacos—including birria (a spicy stew) and huaraches (Mexico City’s answer to flatbreads)—their carne asada tacos prove simplicity is often the best policy. Corn tortillas are stuffed with juicy grilled beef and topped with diced onions and cilantro for a perfect street taco size. Add some spoonfuls of the flavorful salsas and wash it down with their agua fresca–milkshake hybrid made with strawberries, milk, and sugar. ¡Dulce!
