Everyday objects will start to look very plain once brothers Steven and William Ladd premier Function and Fantasy at the Mingei International Museum, February 1–June 1. The New York City artists bridge the gap between art, fashion, craft, and design through their unusual and intricate accessories, large-scale installations, prints, and videos. The Ladd brothers use materials like beads, fabric, twill tape, and metal fittings to create work that is, according to Mingei director Rob Sidner, “just this side of insane.” Pictured above is a necklace of glass beads. Make Mingei the one of your many half-priced museum visits, as this February marks the 25th annual Museum Month in San Diego.
