Whale watching season may be nearing its end, but there are still spots to scope out the giant mammals. Opening March 19, the San Diego Natural History Museum’s new Whales: Giants of the Deep exhibit sprawls 7,000 feet and combines visuals (like the humpback above), science, and storytelling. Visitors can inspect a 58-foot sperm whale skeleton, crawl through a life-size replica of a blue whale heart, and even watch the cetaceans through video portholes and projections.
The museum is also hosting events, including a gray whale watching excursion with Hornblower Cruises & Events through April 24. Just call yourself Ishmael.
