Local celebrity chef Brian Malarkey and business partner Christopher Puffer are opening their newest restaurant, Herb & Sea, in an old art deco building in downtown Encinitas, on November 4. True to the restaurant’s name, the menu will be seafood-focused.

Day of the Dead is this weekend, and Tequila Cazadores is celebrating the Mexican holiday with a special event at the Cosmopolitan Hotel during the Día de los Muertos festival in Old Town, November 2 and 3. There will be tequila tastings and a traveling ofrenda (altar) created by Victoria Villasana, a street and textile artist from Mexico.

Work in Sorrento Valley? You’ll have a new place to grab lunch (and some drinks) when Park Commons opens on November 11. It’s a new food hall from the owners of Whisknladle that will have five vendors, ranging from Middle Eastern food to fried chicken, and soups and salads. Plus, it will have a café in the a.m. and full bar in the evenings.

Avant at Rancho Bernardo Inn debuted a new 10-course dinner with exclusive dishes not featured on the regular menu, paired with elevated smoking cocktails. The special dinners are every Tuesday through November 19, and are limited to just 14 seats.
