A record 800 guests raised $1 million (and counting!) during the 31st Annual Peacemaker Awards Dinner at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The Peacemaker Awards Dinner is the signature event of the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC). Attendees gathered for a three-course dinner, speeches from the 2019 Peacemaker honorees, and Raise the Paddle. Proceeds from the event will support various programs such as the organization’s Avoiding the Pipeline to Prison initiative, which joins regional law enforcement with education leaders to implement restorative justice practices with at-risk youth. The program enables kids to stay in school and the public spends less on prosecution and incarceration.
“We are so thankful to the San Diego community for their huge investment in civility, respect, restorative justice and human dignity,” says Steven Dinkin, president, National Conflict Resolution Center. “Funds raised at our annual Peacemaker event will help NCRC address some of society’s most pressing issues such as the mass incarceration of our young adults, free speech on college campuses, and pervasive harassment in our workplaces.”

Almost 500 people came to the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine to view the fall collection and to support the arts and outreach programs at The Old Globe. This was the Globe Guilders’ 29th annual Couture event.

La Jolla Playhouse’s annual Gala raised more than $1 million to support the Playhouse’s new play development, theater education, and programs benefiting military families. Event co-chairs Joan Jacobs, Debby Jacobs and Lindsey Jacobs welcomed Tony Award nominee Ariana DeBose, star of the Playhouse-born Broadway hit SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical. (DeBose is also the new Anita in Stephen Spielberg and Tony Kushner’s upcoming film adaptation of West Side Story!). Guests enjoyed cocktails on the plaza, performances by DeBose, an exquisite dinner courtesy of Chef Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille, and an after-party with dancing and music by EDM artist Mako.
