2015 SPARK Gala raises $2.1 million for Cancer Center

San Diego Charity News for May 18

By Joyce Glazer

The 2015 SPARK Gala raised $2.1 million for UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. Proceeds will support the Cancer Center’s strategic initiatives: excellence in patient care, accelerating breakthroughs for the best possible treatments and cures, and patient-centered programs and services. CEO Paul Viviano matched fifty cents to each dollar raised during the raise-the-paddle. Those funds will help launch a new Cancer Immunotherapy Program at Moores Cancer Center. The 34th Annual Cancer Center Gala was held on Apr. 25 at the Grand Del Mar.

The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation received a $30,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support its Chollas Creek Gateways project. The grant will allow the Jacobs Center to work with artists and design teams to design concepts for artist gateways as a complement to the Chollas Creek Restoration project. The project supports City of San Diego and community planning efforts to revitalize the creek, which runs through southeastern San Diego’s Diamond Neighborhoods to the San Diego Bay.
