Nuts About Milk

Just when you thought you couldn’t see any more soy, almond, rice, or coconut milk at the grocery store, now local juice bars are devoting entire sections of their menu to milk. Or “Mylk,” as Ritual Wellness calls it, offering almond mylk, cashew crunch, and hemp mylk at their Hillcrest store, Ritual JuiceBox. These plant-based protein drinks are free of lactose, gluten, and casein, while offering other goodies. “Almond milk contains a wide variety of vitamins and minerals your body needs to function,” says Ritual co-founder Lori Kenyon Farley. “It is also high in antioxidants, which can slow aging and help prevent cancer.” So even if you’re not lactose intolerant, you should still consider, a nut milk serves a purpose. “Any time you can add some raw, unpasteurized, plant-based food to your diet, you are adding essential nutrients and enzymes that help your body function and repair itself.” Variety: It does a body good.
