Tom Ham’s Lighthouse
Tom Ham’s Lighthouse recently reopened after completing a much-needed $3.5 million renovation. To celebrate, a crowd of local restaurateurs, media, and Baumann family friends flocked to the tip of Harbor Island to view the iconic restaurant’s new design and sample bites from its new menu.
Changes include the addition of a new keg room (with 32 beers on tap!), which is visible from the main entrance. The design team, lead by the late architect Graham Downes, also moved the upstairs bar to face the bay.
Tom Ham’s was originally built it 1971 by Tom Ham. Today his daughter Susie Baumann, her husband Larry Baumann, and their sons Grant and Andy own and operate the restaurant. They, along with son Tommy Baumann, also own and manage the Bali Hai across the bay on Shelter Island.
Before the renovation, Tom Ham’s was mostly known for its brunch and as a wedding location. But now that the bar overlooks the water, it’s a great spot to have drinks and take in SD’s gorgeous views.
