When I ask golfers to think of their favorite course, they are often drawn to an experience or memory shared on that particular course before thinking of the actual course itself. For former MLB All-Star Rick Sutcliffe, it was sharing special days at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course with friends he has made through the game of baseball. Past and present players, coaches, and friends made along the way come together each year to play golf, reminisce, and catch up as they share a game they all love.
Encinitas Ranch is the perfect place for this. With its open fairways, limited number of bunkers, and five sets of tees from which to choose, this golf course is appreciated by golfers of every skill level. The fact that the front nine is particularly forgiving helps those who do not get a chance to warm up on the beautiful double-ended driving range. Once you make the turn, new challenges come with a variety of elevation changes… and what golfer doesn’t appreciate some elevation changes?
Oh, and there’s those majestic views of the ocean from just about every hole. Another perk to being located near the coast? No frost delays, making those early morning rounds in the winter not only warmer, but free of pushed-back tee times.
And let’s not forget everyone’s favorite hole: the 19th. Encinitas Ranch has recently undergone a complete remodel of The Ranch Grill, one of the most desirable spots to enjoy a sunset, thanks to the comfortable outdoor furniture, huge stone hearth, and view of the Pacific and golf course. The menu has some of the best burgers in the area.
