Part of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department of the Navy, the Admiral Baker Golf Course is where active duty and retired military go to relax and enjoy a round of golf. What most people don’t realize, however, is that this golf course has been open to civilians since 2012.
Featuring wildly different north and south courses, Admiral Baker operates solely on what it brings in, with no government assistance.
In a Nutshell
North Course (par 72)
Yardage: 5,513 to 6,820 yards
What’s new: The course was recently renovated—tee boxes were redone; the reshaped bunkers include new, high-quality sand.
Features: Larger, bent-grass greens with numerous undulations and subtle nuances.
South Course (par 72)
Yardage: 5,519 to 6,129
The design: Traditional course with many trees and holes of various shapes, requiring creativity and strategy.
Caveat: The poa annua grass greens are smaller, making precision a priority.
Signature Hole
No. 7 on North Course (par 3)
At the highest point on the property, the long and narrow green is framed by bunkers along the left and right sides. Anything left or right of the bunkers will end up at the bottom of a 40-foot drop-off, which gives the green a bit of an island feel.
