Sweetwater River trail map

Great for
Running and hiking

Difficulty Level
Easy to moderate

Distance
9 miles out and back,
with shorter options

Location
Spring Valley

Get there: Take 94 East to the intersection of Jamacha and Campo roads. Turn right onto Singer Lane and park. The trail starts at a yellow gate next to a sign that says 11901 Singer Lane.

Why We Love It: The trail offers picturesque views of rolling green hills, but has little shade, so use it now while the weather is still cool. At first you’ll hug the upper banks of the Sweetwater River, then, at 2 miles, a small path diverts to the left. Follow it down to the river—step on rocks to cross the stream, or turn back. The trail then joins a fire road, and then a horse trail. From there, you climb up, getting great views of the open space and a nearby reservoir. If you reach the end, you’ll see picnic tables and a shaded shelter where you can rest before turning back.

Where to refuel afterwards: Try Hooley’s, a traditional Irish pub in the strip mall across the street from the trailhead. Weekend brunch ‘til 4 p.m.
