INCOMING: Romeo & Julieta’s

Talmadge winos rejoice: Romeo & Julieta’s Wine Cafe (4715 Monrore St.) opens this Saturday, earlier than anticipated. Owners Diana Pravlis (a SDSU Food Science alum) and Andrew Dobrowolski created the little joint with architect Dan Sehlhorst (brick and Venetian plastered walls, copper-plated ceiling tiles from India, wine barrel tables and long, mirrored bar). The wine menu stretches globally, $5-$15 a glass. An early favorite on the list is A.Bichot Bourgogne Chardonnay, a French white aged in stainless steel. They’ve got a tiny but full kitchen, with the Polish-born Dobrowolski cooking up Eastern European fare (kasha, cucumber salads and pierogi, a generously stuffed Polish dumpling). R&J also has two brews from their family friends at Vista’s Iron Fist: Renegade Blond Pale Ale and Dubbel Fisted. Soon, come morning (6AM-11AM), R&J becomes a full espresso bar. The spot seats 38 inside, with a coming-soon patio fit for another 30. WIth the news of the Russian-Georgian stalwarts Pomegranate opening a spinoff in Golden Hill, Eastern Europe is having a little run in San Diego.
