Holiday House
Originally designed in 1951 by architect Herbert Burns (considered one of the definitive Palm Springs modernists), this 28-room hotel recently finished a gorgeous remodel. The new look, a collab between the owners and operators of Sparrows Lodge in Palm Springs and designer Mark D. Sikes, preserved the property’s original midcentury modern bones while introducing fresh, airy interiors. Sikes’ signature blue-and-white color scheme is present throughout, as is an impressive art collection that features work by David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Herb Ritts, and more. Other amenities include a new lobby bar, pool, and lounge areas.

La Serena Villas
The historic 1933 hotel has been restored to its former glory following a complete rebuild by the team who revitalized the Del Marcos Hotel next door. La Serena’s 18 super-luxe villas offer desert seclusion in style, with private patios that have cast-iron claw-foot tubs, fire pits, and built-in seating. There’s also a new rooftop lounge, full-service spa, and more. But what we really love is the Frida Kahlo–inspired dining room inside the property’s restaurant, Azucar, which officially opens this month. Look for colorful portraits of the artist set against patterned blue wallpaper and rustic wooden details. Azucar is open to hotel guests daily and to the public three nights per week for dinner service.

Truss & Twine
The latest in the list of buzzworthy restaurants in the desert city’s downtown area is Truss & Twine, the second concept from executive chef and owner Michael Beckman of Workshop Kitchen + Bar. T & T’s menu includes small, tapas-style plates inspired by local ingredients from Coachella Valley. But the real attraction is the specialty craft cocktails that span the eras, from the Golden Age to Prohibition to the tiki craze of the 1950s (and now!). The place also hosts a regular lineup of guest DJs for the party set. Truss us, this is a great spot for an adults-only night on the town.
