Opening with a Bang!

Bang Bang in downtown San Diego

By Troy Johnson | Photo by Paul Body

Its bathrooms are national news, thanks to photos of Ryan Gosling leering sadly, sexily all over a women’s stall. But Bang Bang is also a subway tunnel (the entryway stairs), a disco (largest ball on the West Coast, reportedly), a sushi joint (from a chef who worked under James Beard nominee Carl Schroeder), a cocktail haven (punch bowls of Moscow Mules), and Japanese lantern emporium (covering the entire ceiling). It’s the second collaboration between promoter Johnny Shockey and designer Mauricio Couturier (Super El Camino). Downtown club Voyeur was their first. This new spot is a total scene. The food? Respectable. The eye candy? Complimentary. 526 Market Street, downtown
